Visit Nepal for Numerous Trekking and Hiking Destinations

Visit Nepal for Numerous Trekking and Hiking Destinations. Nepal is a paradise when it comes to activities such as hiking and trekking. A large part of the country consists of hills and mountains. In a place like this, it makes sense to go on treks and hike through the hills and enjoy the amazing views of the pristine mountains.

Dolpo Trek

Dolpo Region Trek is one of the isolated and least developed areas to consider trekking in Nepal. The Dolpo region is situated on the Tibetan plateau and close to the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range, and it is the highest altitude inhabited land in the western Nepal of Annapurna base camp trek. Dolpo, a land beyond the Himalayas, captures mysterious spectacles like ancient monasteries, and animals like blue sheep, and snow leopards. The Dolpo region had stayed strictly off-limits until 1990, which has helped the traditions and ways of life here to remain intact for decades.

Dolpo was able to gain immense attention when the first trek was organized by a British tour operator in 1990. Since the release of Peter Matthiessen’s ‘The Snow Leopard’ and David Snellgrove’s ‘Himalayan Pilgrimage’ the region has received quite a spotlight and popularity.

Dolpo Trek Itinerary

The Upper Dolpo Trek begins from Jhupal and extends all the way to Shey Gompa. Visiting this heritage is the primary goal of every trekker, who wishes to trek in this region. This route offers you great views of mountains in the region from numerous viewpoints scattered across the route. The trail also takes you through the Lower Dolpo region.

This region is also famous for Phoksundo Lake, which is one of the most beautiful lakes in Nepal. Though this region is a part of Nepal, it is greatly influenced by the Tibetan culture and preserves a few of the last remnants of traditional Tibetan culture.

Phoksundo Lake is a major attraction in this region, with greenish-blue color water and quite a depth making it a remarkable art of nature. Also, this is the only place where people still practice the pre-Buddhist Bon-Po religion.

Our path passes through Cedar Forest, spectacular waterfalls, Shey Phoksundo National Park, and Palam. The landscapes here are quite desolate and the villages at a height of 4300 m and above are even more isolated and raw. Camping is also an important part of this trek.

Upper Mustang

Quite like Dolpo trek, yet another trek that takes you beyond the Himalayas is the Upper mustang trek. On this journey, you experience most of the things that you also do in the Dolpo Trek. For instance, the Bon-Po culture practiced by the locals, the Tibetan influence in the lifestyle, since the region is so close to Tibet, and so on. Quite like Dolpo, even Upper Mustang remained as a restricted zone for quite a long time. Fortunately, it is available for trekking and other forms of trips at the moment. Upper Mustang Trek is one of the best treks in the entire country.

Rara Lake Trek

Situated in close proximity to the Dolpo Region is the Rara National Park. It is one of the richest and most diverse national parks in Nepal. The Rara Lake trek route develops within the Rara National Park. Needless to say that the main attraction of the trek is the lake. It is the biggest and the deepest lake in Nepal. It is an off the beaten trek, with so many things to see.
